My Love - A Happy Poem
My Love, My Lovely Lady
Over green, grassy hills
lightly spotted with graves,
And past the farmland
mountains of hay,
And down the shore
and gentle waves,
Is where my
lovely lady lay.
She spends the day
in the sun with a quilt,
In her garden, painted
in grass and silt,
And she walks inside
and brews iced tea.
And she sews and knits
while she waits for me.
When she’s done with her knitting
and the oven is hot
She walks to farthest
fence on our lot
And she opens her lips
and breathes in long
And sweetly sings
our old dancing song.
Our Dancing Song!
The tune of the young,
Which returns my thoughts
to the first song sung.
When she named me “Hers Forever”
and I gave her a ring.
And we grew gray together
on tea and porch swings.
So when I'm fishing on the docks
at half-past-five.
I hear her voice
and it brings me to life.
And On the way home,
just past the sea,
I see her by her garden
with two cups of tea.
