A Word on Heroes
"Every one of us is, even from his mother's womb, a master craftsman of idols." ~John Calvin
What is a hero? With proper boundaries, and a secure identity, a hero can be a necessary role model, or turn-to example in times of chaos. Without, a hero can become an idol. How many times in history have we seen the worship of an idol step in the way of clarity. In the thirties and forties an entire country was blindsided mentally by Adolf Hitler, a man who had the sociopathic capability to inflict death on masses of people based on their race and heritage. That’s merely one of many examples. In Chuck Colson’s autobiography and testimony, Born Again, he not only displays his attachment to his Idol, Richard Nixon, but also how his reality was shattered as this idol of his, turned out to be a fraud, and left him sitting in the retributional consequences of one of the biggest U.S. government scandals in history. As history progresses, we see more and more of humanity's impulse to idolize one thing or another, and the emptiness it can leave in our lives. Just a thought.
"A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wow!! Good comparisons!!
